Memorial Day

It is the
VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the
VETERAN who
salutes the Flag,

It is
the
VETERAN
who serves
under the Flag,

ETERNAL
REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON
THEM.

Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well. It has been forever since we have all got together! I am more than willing to plan a get together if I have enough family's willing to attend. I put an email out a few months ago and only had one person reply. I know lives are starting to get back to normal so please let me know of your thoughts! On the next note, School is soon approaching, If anyone needs help with school supply's please let me know. Operation Home Front has been collecting for us and I have quite a bit of school supply's. So please do not hesitate to contact me. I am going to try to set a day up where we will have them out for anyone who would like to come in and take what they need as well! I hope everyone is having a wonderful Summer! Talk to you all soon!!

new to the unit....

hello all,

spc goodman here. i would like some clarifcation on the upcoming shuffle to pa arng. also if this unit is going to be deployed to affghanistan this year.
thankyou for your time

spc goodman

SFC Vincent Jackson says:
SPC Goodman,
Welcome to Co C 1-175th Infantry. As for your questions, yes, our entire Battalion is being aligned with the 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard. This move will have little affect on our current relationships with the State of Maryland, and no, you will not be moving to Pennsylvania, just working for them. As for deployment, you need to contact your unit and chain of command in private for all tactical information and deployment questions. This is not the forum for those types of conversations.

ann-marie says:

Missy says:
It seems someone is ALWAYS sick here. And I'm NEVER getting any sleep. I"m totally exhaused! Work totally sucks. Wish I could find a way to work from home and spend more time with the kids

Reunion Party

Great Job ladies. I wish I could have done more to help, but the baby is kicking my arse right now. Heard many, many positive comments from those attending. MaMa Pace- you rock. Selling out 3 tables. And to everyone who bought raffle tickets or played the wheels or donated anything...thank you for supporting our FRG. It was so nice to meet so many soldiers & new family members. And thanks for all the belly rubs. I have a feeling this baby will be a bit spoiled.

Contact Person

My daughter's father was part of your unit that returned from Iraq earlier this spring/summer. He has since transferred locations and refuses to provide contact information. Can someone provide me with a number I can call to attempt to locate him as he is refusing to help support our baby. I apologize for not putting my name, however, as I am sure you can understand, I do not feel the need to name names, I merely want to be put in touch with the right people to deal with this situation. Thank you so much.

ann-marie says:
Hi. I think you should look up on the web for the number for his home unit. They should be able to help you.

Renee Delawder says:
. I may of spoke with you in the past (if this is the same person). I gave the proper person your informtion and they have tried to contact you but had no luck getting in touch with you. Maybe this is someone different? Please contact me and I can put you in contact with someone who may be able to help you. My contact information is here on the website.
Thanks,

Please keep praying

Even though all our guys are home, please keep praying for our troops that are still deployed. I know of 4 people right now. I have a friend that is a nurse in Afghanistan. Her hospital has been in some dangerous situtaions in the last week. Can't give more detail. One of the Maryland Natl Guard Spiritual Support's son is currently serving, Patrick Carr. His father asked that we pray for his safe keeping. So, this Independence Day while your all enjoying having your guys home, please say a pray of thanks & one of safe keeping for our fellow soldiers.

Hey all from Jackson Hole, WY

Hi everyone. We are on our cross country journey in my car, slowly making our way from Sonora, CA to York PA. We started the trip with two nights in beautiful Lake Tahoe. Slept in the car last night at Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho. Tonight we are spending the night in beautiful Jackson Hole WY. Tomorrow we make our way through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and then will stay two nights on the Yellowstone River just north of Yellowstone, where we will use the new fly fishing rod given to us by SGM Jon Caviani, a good friend of mine. Let's hope we catch some dinner!

Once back in York I will update the website with homecoming photos sent to me (only from Missy so far) and some links to news footage and video.

Hope you are all enjoying your time with your guys and families.

ann-marie says:
We are making a web album of photos of our trip. We didn't get the camera until after we had come through Tahoe and Yellowstone so the photos start with our stay in Livingston MT. You can see them at http://www.1-175charlie.com/trp/trip.html

Tawnya says:
The Timson Clan misses you guys. Come home soon. So funny to see you were in my home state of Idaho. Can't wait to have that spa day Ann Marie. Vin & Chris can babysit Sean. Be Safe & Enjoy every minute of it.

The Timson Clan says:
Looked at the pictures. GOD I miss home! Vin you look so relaxed & chill. When I saw the car, the mom in me kicked in. Then, the adventurer took over. What a blast. Can't wait to see more.

George says:
You guys rock!

And that Limo is so cool-

Love you-safe travels-
Geo

Renee Delawder says:
Hi Guy's, I havent had a chance to view the pic's of your trip. I am sure you guys are haveing a blast. Ann-Marie, I will send you the pic's I have soon. I am so behind, but I am off for the summer starting next week so I will catch up then!!! I know you have to be so happy coming back home! I will talk to you soon. Have a fun and safe trip the rest of the way home!

ann-marie says:
Hi, we made it back safely and no car trouble. Had a great time. Just getting my computer set up now. Next week I'll up date the website with the homecoming photos I've got etc.

Hope you are all enjoying your time off with your soldiers.

Tawnya, our favorite night on the trip was when we rolled into Craters of the Moon Nt'l Monument, Idaho at about 1am so it was pitch black. Slept in the car and woke up to an awesome view!

Missy says:
Welcome Home Guys!!! Glad that you made the trip safely! LOVED the pictures! Looks like you had a really great time!

Renee D. says:
WELCOME HOME GUYS!!!! So glad to see you made it home safe! My computer was fried from a recent storm, But I just got a new one! So I am back online now! Now that your home I will try and make a point to send you the pic's that I have from home coming. I don't have a ton, i thought I took more pic's. But I will send you what I have. But the big party is next weekend. then we'll REALLY celebrate!!! I can't believe she's a year ols already. She starting to do a little walking, taking a few steps here and there, but she's very cautious. However, I ddn't think it'll be too long before she's running after Gabe!

Vets 4 Vets

I know you all just got back, but my mom sent me an article about this group. If any of you soldiers think a group would be of use in Maryland let me know (ilovemickeymost@yahoo.com). I'd be happy to do all the grunt work to get it started. And then let you guys run w/ it.

www.vets4vets.us

"The nonpartisan, nonpolitical orginization provides peer support to veterans trying to find healthy ways of coping w/ the impact of war on their phyches so they can put Iraq or Afghanistan to rest & resume their former lives. Many veterans find peer support uniquely helpful. There is something special talking to another veteran from the same era."

Reunion party

In an attempt to find a bridge between the childless families and the families with children I may have found a resolution. Since coming to Iraq I have become quite the drinker of Non alcoholic beer, though I dont think that will be a substitute once the real thing is available. If there is going to be a function, upon our return everybody can attend, but the children will only be permitted to drink non alcoholic beer. The Doxzen family will provide the first 4 cases of non alcoholic beer, and as an added treat, it will be German beer.

ann-marie says:

Ears

One of the things I thought I learned in Iraq, but was something I learned as a teenager but forgot in my adulthood. Apparently one of my ears is lower then the other. I first realized this when I was a teenager and noticed my sungl#@*%! were lopsided. I had not worn sungl#@*%! since, however since having to wear eyeprotection I realized this again. Although at my mature age it doesnt bother me like it did when I was 13. Just dont mention it.

ann-marie says:
Cool! I notice that my bad word blocker is working. It typed over the #@*%! part of sungl#@*%!. LOLOL. My gl#@*%! always seem lopsided but I always thought it was just my wire frames being bent differently. Oh yeah, but I didn't mention it.

gab says:
geeze, honey, i never noticed your ears...to busy lookin in those eyes. guess thats why my gl#@*%! are always lopsided too. time to use the contacts more

Sorry Folks but..............

I am imposing a new rule for the message board and blog. Posts that are not identified with a real first name will be assumed to be from a non company or company family member and will be removed.

We welcome everyone to post and you may post about concerns or issues but you have to identify yourself or you will not be taken seriously.

You can also email directly to the FRG leaders who are listed on the contacts page. If you really want to resolve your issues, that is probably the best and fastest way to achieve that. TAkes guts though!

gab says:
following your rules: the "our frg is great" blog was lil ol me. and i meant it...u guys r awesome. u have all helped me thru so much. all anyone has to do is ask.

Missy says:
I'll own up too....MAD was me, but those are my initials, so technically I was identifying myself! :)

harder after leave?

has anyone else felt that after their soldier went back after leave it was actually harder than when all this started? Just wondering.

ann-marie says:
Gabby, I felt the same way. I think there is a blog post from me back in November about it. How bittersweet it is when they come back home for leave. I wouldn't give up that time but in some ways it would be easier without it. I wonder if it feels that way for them also. Just when they might start getting used to being home again they have to leave to go back. Having said all of that, did you have a good leave time?

Tawnya says:
I loved every minute he was home. But, putting him on the plane after was way worse then the 1st time. He agreed. And I'm still not in the groove of things.

gabby says:
yeah, the time spent together was wonderful. glad to hear i m not the only one in a funk after leave. but yeah, i wouldnt trade it for anything.

Missy says:
Paul just left this morning to go back, and it was definately harder to say goodbye the second time around. We'll see how things go in the days to come.....

Tawnya says:
Missy - I'm just up the street if you need me.

Missy says:
Tawnya - Thank Babe! Give me a call and we'll get together sometime soon! Are you going to the Easter Egg Hunt?

Evie says:
My honey's leave was cancelled, so I was angry about that. But when Tawnya told me it was harder the second time, I was relieved. It would be way harder for me with 4 kids anyway. I can't even imagine what he would've felt having to go back. Ladies, just remember there's just a few more weeks to go!! Try not to look at the calendar or the time. Really distract yourself. That's what I do. I have no choice with 4 kids running around. Do you know what my 1yrold son did this evening? He was playing in the toilet while I was cleaning the kitchen. Why???? So cleaning that up added to bathtime and before I knew it, it was their bedtime. It's ridiculous, but it actually helps me. I don't think about the time. Hang in there ladies. We're almost there!

Missy says:
I'm surving ok, but Gabe had a rough time at bedtime tonight. That's always been our tough time of day, even more so now that Daddy put him to bed for the last 2 weeks. He did a lot of crying. I tried to cheer him up as best I could. Kylie helped by being her adorable self and making him laugh! I know it's only a few more weeks, but a 5 year old doesn't have the same concept of time that we do. He kept asking me why Daddy wasn't coming home. There was a big part of me that didn't want Paul to come home on leave, because I knew it was going to be much harder on Gabe this time around.... Thank God, we're almost done!

Renee D says:
I agree, It was very hard on Brenden whom is 5. He had a really hard time for about a week he cried at night. They both would not sleep with out their Daddy Doll's. Nicholas on the other hand whom is 10, once we watched that plane fly away (which was very hard on me, but Nicholas insisted) he cleaned himself up and said "alright mommy let's go". We had a quiet ride home but Nicholas has the concept of time and know's he will be home soon, unlike Brenden who thinks Daddy is gone again, how long will it be this time". Nicholas has had a rough time with all year, he seems to be straigtning up now. The visit really helped him. NOT TOO LONG NOW LADIE'S!!!! I can't wait to have my hubby back!

God is awesome!

February was one of the hardest months for my husband and I and I want to say that God is the only reason why we're making it. I can't imagine what he's going through over there, but God has strengthened him. I can tell that he's growing and becoming a better husband. Through that, I've chosen to really become better as well. So, if you're down and out, turn to the Lord. He is awesome in so many ways!! I know I'm not the only one dealing with ridiculous stress with the kids, the marriage, the house, the car, work, whatever. It's really hard sometimes, but do not let these problems break you. It's the enemy trying to do just that. He wants us to fail while God wants us to prevail! So don't let your problems break you. It will get better if you trust in the Lord. Every soldier will return home!

ann-marie says:
Hallelujah!

Tawnya says:
GOD is the only reason I've gotten through this deployment. I know I've always got someone on my side, walking beside me, & holding me up at times when I can't do it myself. And GOD is working wonders through SGT Bowen. He is kicking this thing in the arse. Prayers are working, so everyone keep it up. To all of you, GOD is watching over you & protecting you. Hugs to you all.

To the Bestest Hubby Ever

Just want you to know that I am thinking about you. Things have been hard here, but its always easier b/c i know you are supporting me. Soon

ann-marie says:
Glad to see people posting. It's very hard having our guys gone. It must be really tough on those of you with young children. I admire all of you for your strength in dealing with it all. We need to be supportive of each other, our mates, our kids, everyone involved.

I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL VINCE COMES HOME!

Thanks!

Tawnya says:
It is hard having young ones, but it makes the time go so much faster. There are days I'm too busy to even breath.

Our FRG is great

Just a note of thanks and kudos to our FRG. You are all volunteers going thru the same thing as the rest of us, yet you still keep us informed and updated regularly thru this website and emails.

I have heard of other FRG's not being as wonderful as ours. To those who feel left out....blog, send a bulliten message. To those who say 'i dont get any emails', go to a meeting, blog leave a message or make a phone call to get on the list. Be proactive. This is almost over and now ppl wanna complain??? I really dont get it.

To say that ppl sit here all day is totally riduculous. We all have schedules and lives we are trying to maintain with our soldiers being away. Checking once a week is sufficient. This is so not a clicky group as i have heard other FRG's have been. We are adults and need to reach out to eachother.

Ok, thats all. Just thanks for the wonderful work Charlie FRG. You guys are awesome.

Heard otherwise about FRG says:
I have heard otherwise being over here in Iraq. I've heard that the people who don't have children are almost looked down on and don't attend and try to stay informed but aren't treated the same as those who have children. I don't have children but even if i did i'd feel a little uneasy about having someone who didn't have children around reguardless of who they are. Maybe that's just me. Maybe you can have a no children FRG meeting and work it out well in advance so no one can say there's no way to get a baby sitter schedule an event a few months in advance to work out all the kinks so everyone feels welcome instead of left out. Again this is what i've heard.

Renee D says:
To Heard Otherwise About FRG,
I am sorry some feel that way. Unfortunately I think the problem may be with themselve's as we have quite a bit of women involved in the FRG every month who don't have children. They are quite comfortable with all of us. I do agree, we should have some event's with out children. The problem is, if other's feel this way they must stand up and speak up. It' has to be a group decision to make sure we would have a good turn out. We spend alot of time planning events that we want everyone to be able to enjoy. Most of the time it is only a couple of us who actually get the things done that need to be done. It is alot of work on just a few people! Maybe this person could help plan a NO CHILDREN event! If someone is coming to the meeting's that feel uncomfortable, they need to give it a chance. We have wive's with children, wive's without children, mother's and father's of soldier's that attend our meetings. Some brother's and sister's and aunt's and uncle's even come at times. So obviousley they have not been much, or they would see it is a mixed group. We do have fun at our meetings. It's a shame that they wouldnt give it a chance! I guess we can't please everybody!

MAD says:
It's really starting to bother me that people are starting to complian now. We're 2 months away from the guys returning home, and they've been gone for almost 10 months now, and it's taken this long for people to tell us they're unhappy with they we we're doing things? I, personally, think that's ridiculous! It someone is unhappy with how things are being done, they should have spoken up months ago, when there was ctually time to possibly do something about it. We have a great FRG, and we often have a really good turnout at meetings. That says something. We're not mind readers. If there's something you don't like, nothing will change if no one says something. And as far as kids go, I don't know how that makes a difference in any way. All family members are treated the same, whether they have kids or not! Those of us with kids are acting as single parents right now, and getting a babysitter can be hard, not to mention expensive, especially for an all day event like a meeting. I personally think we'd have less of a turn out if kids were not allowed at meetings. I can understand some adults only events, but not meetings. It just really upsets me that after all the time and hard work that have been put into all our events and meetings that people are complaining now. We are all volunteers, none of us get ANY kind of compensation for what we do for the FRG. We do it for our soldiers and our family members, because we care and want to help. We put a lot of time and effort into everything we plan, no one more so than Renee and April. If you have a problem with how things are done, why not come and help out? Tell us how you'd like to see things done. Sitting at your computer and anonomously complaining doesn't really help anyone, and just makes those of us that do help feel like we are not appreciated. Renee and April, and all of the other volunteers that have given up your time so freely to help with any of our events...THANK YOU for ALL you do!

Evie says:
What is up with that? I think our FRG is great too. People like to complain and do nothing. So with that, kudos to all the ladies holding it down! Putting in the long hours while juggling life is a very hard thing to do. Most people wouldn't do that. While I was there on Sunday, I thought to myself, "How do these women do it?" I'm proud of all of you and congratulations on being recognized. Thank you for all that you do!!!!!!

ann-marie says:
Well it seems that we have an unhappy member in the bunch. "Heard otherwise about FRG" is writing from the same place as "Busy Family Member" who complained last week about the FRG. I encourage you to contact one of the FRG members directly to get your issues resolved.

wanting pic

when and how can we order our company pic that was taken in ft dix?

ann-marie says:
Hi picman,

You can order them from Renee. If you click on the "Fundraisers" link above it will open up a screen (here where blog is) showing the pics, the sizes, and the prices. Then email renee (contacts link above) and let her know what you want etc.

To everyone, there are company photos and Battalion cookbooks still available. The money will go towards the Reunion Party (to be announced sometime later) and all other FRG events. All FRG volunteers are non paid and all money for meetings, newsletters, events, and this website are paid for out of donations and sales of fundraiser items.

Thank you!

PicMan says:
Thank you for your reply. I will e-mail Renee today. Not tomorrow, not tonight, but today. PICMAN

Reunion Information

please keep EVERYONE updated as to when it is even those that aren't on here as much as the 'regulars' it'd be nice if people could know in advance without causing harm to anyone. Put it out in a news letter and rush that out so people can plan for it. Its not fair that most the information is posted here and the working people who don't have time to sit around and check this constantly don't get information passed down.

ann-marie says:
Hi. The date has not yet been set and I know that Renee will send out information about it by mail, as she does with most everything else. If you let us know who you are then we can make sure you get the information. Ok? Thanks!

ann-marie says:
Forgot to mention. We are all working people! And us regulars welcome anyone else who wants to post. And hey, I only update this website about once a month, so there is really no need to quit work and sit around all day just to check the site for updates. Either way, if you are looking for information this site is always a good place to start. Your choice whether you want to check it out or not. Renee is a working mother of two and she is not able to "rush out that newsletter" as they take much more time to produce, whereas a website change is pretty quick. I bet your newsletter is in the mail on the way to you as we type.

ann-marie says:
I see you are writing from Kuwait. Even if Renee was to rush that newsletter out for you its' gotta take two weeks to get there! You are better off checking the website every few weeks.

Busy Family Member says:
well i don't mean a full newsletter i just mean certain details for the reunion. Also i wasn't taking anything away from people who work and take care of the home front if you thought that oops. It just seems from all the posts that its certain people and they just seem to be messaging in somewhat of a constant format so i figured people had jobs where they were at or near a computer during the day. Now looking at the topics that its been a while since someone posted I don't look at the photos really. So i don't know if you can comment there as well. Bottom line it'd be nice to give everyone advance notice when there is going to be a reunion so people aren't left out.

Renee D. says:
Busy Family Member,
We have no information on Reunion as of yet. We have no control over the date's and sure would not keep it from the family's. Once we find out, the family's will be notified. If you have question's about how things work or anything else dont sit around and get frustrated, give us a call! We all have busy live's and are doing the best we can! Hopefully we can help.

April Snyder says:
THANK YOU FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO APPRECIATE OUR FRG'S HARD WORK WE PUT FORTH! For those of you who do not I apologize. We have had a wonderful success with the families coming together and being a family while our soldier's are away! I having two young children understand the business that goes on in one person's day and not being able to get on here daily. Please also understand we put Info. out as soon as we receive it this is just one way faster. A newsletter follows but could take up to a week to get to a person depending on where they live! Please feel free to contact any of us. We would like to say we try to keep all families happy and updated. This being a first complaint it's hard to help you feel better about this not knowing who you are? My contact info. along with Renee's is on this website. Please contact us if you would like, We like to have everyone feeling good about their FRG. Sincerely, April Snyder

Welcome Home Guys

We are all so glad that you are back home safe and sound. I bet SSG Bowen will be glad too see you all and vice versa. We are so glad he is getting better. It will be a tough road for awhile but having you guys back will surely help Collin with his recovery.

Best wishes to you all and your families.

Kylie FINALLY...

CRAWLED!!!! YEAH!! She will be 9 months old in 4 days and today was the first time that she crawled. I didn't thik this day would ever come. Of course, she went from barely crawling, to racing across the room in a matter of hours, and now I'm really in trouble. She's starting to pull up to stand some too, so anything at her level is within reach, and in her mouth. I realized tonight that I totally need to baby proof my house again with a crawler/soon to be walker in mind! And I was lucky enough to get her crawling on video to send to Paul. It goes in the mail tomorrow!!

gabby says:
awwww, congrats there Kylie, good job. Oh boy mom, now the fun really starts. Glad you were able to get it on video to send to him over there. Thats awesome.

ann-marie says:
Congratulations to Kylie.

Missy says:
If you're interested you can check out a video clip of Kylie crawling at my family blog http://dettmernews.blogspot.com/
Enjoy!

Ground water saturation.

How come in Maryland when we have a drought for a month, the first rain we get the ground consumes it all within 10 minutes and the ground is dry. In Iraq(a desert) it doesnt rain for like 10months, then rains for 2 minutes and the puddle stays there for like 3 days.

Bandit says:
Dox, beware of those puddles, for I have seen many headless doves near them.

ann-marie says:
For example, at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F), a cubic meter of air can hold a maximum of 18 grams of water. At 25 degrees C (77 degrees F), it can hold 22 grams of water. If the temperature is 25 degrees C and a cubic meter of air contains 22 grams of water, then the relative humidity is 100 percent. If it contains 11 grams of water, the relative humidity is 50 percent. If it contains zero grams of water, relative humidity is zero percent.

The relative humidity plays a large role in determining our comfort level. If the relative humidity is 100 percent, it means that water will not evaporate -- the air is already saturated with moisture. Our bodies rely on the evaporation of moisture from our skin for cooling. The lower the relative humidity, the easier it is for moisture to evaporate from our skin and the cooler we feel.

Humidity

If high humidity makes it feel hotter(in Md 80degrees feels like 95, and in the desert there is no humidity(so 120degrees feels like 105) does that effect the cold. Does 40degrees over here feel like 25. I think so. Any one verify or dispute my thought.

Doxzen's Wife says:
well, i believe it is a cross between the dew point and the humidity. but then you have to add in the barometric pressure to that and then use the formula for calculation of the "feels like" temperature. oh yeah the wind speed and cloud coverage should be factored in too.....

CPT G says:
Doxen,
your constant stream of mind bending questions should be commended. It is not often that I come across someone with you level of clarity in the way the world should work. However, All I can say is this. If if feels cold then it is cold conversely, if it feels hot then it is hot. On the one hand you can put on snivel gear to reduce the effects of the climate. On the other, you can only take so many layers of clothing off before you are just standing there naked, save for your IBA and helmet. My guidance to you is to never let me see you in just you IBA and helmet.

ann-marie says:
San Francisco during winter can feel colder than Minneapolis in winter. What can you conclude from this?

CPT G says:
It feels colder in SF than it does in Min.

Doxzen says:
Has Ron Jeremy ever acted in a movie wearing only IBA and Kevlar, Given the time period Mr. Jeremy was performing I'll except steel pot and flak vest.

Doxzen says:
I meant accept, not except.
To my wife that is more of a politician's answer then a meteorologist's answer. I've read it several times attempting to ascertain a meaning, and although I cant come up with one, I feel that the questions been answered.

ann-marie says:
pretty smart for a captain. By the way, what have you done with my boyfriend?

ann-marie says:
For example, at 20 degrees C (68 degrees F), a cubic meter of air can hold a maximum of 18 grams of water. At 25 degrees C (77 degrees F), it can hold 22 grams of water. Leave

Yeah, now i can say 1 more month till his leave......HOORAY!!!!!! How much notice did everyone else get? Were you able to meet and say good bye at BWI??? Anyone w/ info let me know. OMG i cant wait to see you hon. how i have missed you.

ann-marie says:
Gab, it seemed to me that we didn't know until about half a day before he actually flew out of mosul to Kuwait. Then he was stuck there a few days. Had to play waiting game for three days waiting with all of that anticipation! But it was great really.

ann-marie says:
oh I remember now, the day he was supposed to leave Mosul they decided to repave the frickin airport runway so he didn't get to leave until about four days later than that!

Tawnya says:
He should get offical word 24 hours before he is to get on a plane. Then they fly to Kuwait & wait until they can get a flight out to the states. I'm not sure if they stop anywhere in between. After that I have no idea.

ann-marie says:
hopefully they don't get the urge to pave the runway again! Yes, after kuwait they fly to Atlanta and then from there to BWI. Might be in Kuwait a day or two in the interim.

gab says:
thanx all, hopefully i planned my 2 vacation days accordingly...keeping fingers crossed

Tawnya says:
And if not, I'm sure they would be nice enough to work around it. Maybe someone would trade w/ you.

Soldiers Christmas Cards

The Timsonator sent me an email. He was passing on all the thank you's he'd gotten from the guys for their Christmas cards. I emailed all the women that made the cards & told them how appreciative the soldiers were. I've gotten 5 emails since this am for making St. Valentine's Day cards. One lady has already made 300. I'm pretty sure she's been working on them since she sent the Christmas cards. LOL She was so excited they would have a home. People really want to help & love it when they know what to do.

picking soldier up at airport

A friend just went & picked her guy up at the airport. Someone helped her be able to go to the gate to greet him. Make sure you get there early, this could take awhile & you want to make sure you get to the gate before they land (or you could pass each other in the walkway & make for a confusing day.) Take his orders & your military ID w/ you. Ask around, but she ended up at the ticket counter of the airline he was flying in on. They gave her a pass. Kinda like the kind they give parents to put their children on the plane when they are flying by themselves. Then she went through the regular security check. The ticket lady was not very pleasant about doing this for her. And its not guarenteed that they will. So, please know that if you are going to try. Also, BWI has a USO office on the same floor as the baggage claim. They might be able to help, but no guarentee. Look online for the location at the airport. When we went, they had signs up, but that was during construction. And none of the employees seem to know where it is. If you decide to stay on this side of the sirport (& not go tot the gate), you can wait in there until its time to go meet your guy. It is a really nice place. I'm pretty sure you need your military ID to go in there. They have a kids room w/ cribs & rocking chairs. They have videos for the kids & snacks. Couches, etc. It is wonderful. check out their website to find all the info. This is a great place to donate stuff for the troops. When we went they had boxes of Girl Scout cookeies.

ann-marie says:
Tawnya, thanks for the tip. Is your soldier still on leave or has he gone back now? How was your visit?

Tawnya says:
Hasn't come yet. But, we've used the USO another time when we were flying out of BWI. And the other info I got was from another wife whose guy just came home.

SOLDIERS get cards

All you great soldiers in Iraq & Afghanistan - Timson told me your cards finally arrived. Bowen, I hope you got your cards too by now. I'm so sorry they were late getting to you. Things definately slowed way down at the post office for the holidays. Things normally take about 4 days & this time it took well over 2 weeks. I'm just glad you all got them. Even though they were signed by my family, they were from many more people. I belong to an online scrapbook group. Members are from all over the US & Canada. The ladies made 1200 Christmas cards. They take about 30 minutes a piece. So there was 600 hours of love, support, well wishes, & prayers put into those cards. They were wonderful enough to send 300 of them to me for all of you. The remaining cards will be sent to soldiers at Walter Reed & other military hospitals. Thank you all again for all you are giving up. We love you all & you are thought of everyday.

ann-marie says:
That was wonderful of your group to do that for the veterans.

Soldiers Names HELP

If you all could email me the names (including ranks) of any of the soldiers you know who are deployed w/ 175th, I'd appreciate it. I'm doing something special for Christmas & want everyone of our guys to get "something" personalized. Don't worry about duplicates, some people might not respond, so list their husbands too. I'm keeping track of all the guys. So, brainstrorm & come up w/ as many as you can. Soldier Guys - you could really be helpful here. You see these guys everyday. Also if you could say if they are in Iraq or Afghanistan that would be great. Thank you so much for your help. www.ilovemickeymost@yahoo.com

Tawnya says:
Honey - You're off the hook b/c you already gave me your list. If you can think of anyone else, let me know. Miss you & thanks

ann-marie says:

Soldier's Night Before Xmas

Missy emailed this around. Missy, please add a comment to this post with author's name as it is copyrighted material.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the base,
Only sentries were stirring, they guarded the place.
At the foot of each bunk sat a helmet and boot
For the Santa of Soldiers to fill up with loot.
The soldiers were sleeping and snoring away
As they dreamed of "back Home" on good Christmas Day.
One snoozed with his rifle, he seemed so content.
I slept with the letters my family had sent.
When outside the tent there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my rack to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Poked out my head and yelled, "What was that crash?"
When what to my thrill and relief should appear?
But one of our Blackhawks to give the all clear.
More rattles and rumbles! I heard a deep whine!
Then up drove eight Humvees, a jeep close behind.
Each vehicle painted a bright Christmas green,
With more lights and gold tinsel than I'd ever seen.
The convoy commander leaped down and he paused.
I knew then and there it was Sergeant McClaus!
More rapid than rockets, his drivers they came
When he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
"Now Cohen! Mendoza! Woslowski! McCord!
Now Li! Watts! Donetti! and Specialist Ford!
"Go fill up my sea bags with gifts large and small!
Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"
In the blink of an eye, to their trucks the troops darted.
The engines did flutter, they sputtered, then started.
The armored moved out, it was "Duty or bust"
McClaus disappeared in all of the dust!
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Through the tent flap the sergeant came in with a bound.
He was dressed all in camo and looked quite a sight
With a Santa hat added for this special night.
His eyes, sharp as lasers! He stood six feet six.
His nose was quite crooked, his jaw hard as bricks!
A stub of cigar he held clamped in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.
A young driver walked in with a seabag in tow.
McClaus took the bag, told the driver to go.
Then the sarge went to work. And his mission today?
Bring Christmas from home to the troops far away!
Tasty gifts from old friends in the helmets he laid.
There were candies and cookies and cakes, all homemade.
Many parents sent phone cards so soldier could hear
Treasured voices and laughter of those they held dear.
Loving husbands and wives had mailed photos galore
Of weddings and birthdays and first steps and more.
And for each soldier's boot, like a warm, happy hug,
There was art from the children at home sweet and snug.
As he finished the job, did I see a twinkle?
Was that a small smile, or instead, just a wrinkle?
To the top of his brow he raised up his hand
And gave a salute that made me feel grand.
I gasped in surprise when, his face all aglow,
He gave a huge grin and a big Ho!Ho!Ho!
Ho!Ho!Ho! from the barracks and then from the base.
Ho!Ho!Ho! as the convoy sped up into space.
As the camp radar lost him, I heard this faint call:
"Happy Christmas, brave soldiers! May peace come to all!"

How you doing?

ann-marie says:
Hey Tawnya and everyone. I am back in California for the winter. Starting to get settled in. You probably imagine me basking in the sunshine or something but I actually live in the Sierra Nevada (kind of near the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training place that the guys go to for high mountain training before deploying to Afghanistan) and it is pretty cold and rainy. Snow up the hill a ways. I will bide my time here while waiting for my soldier to return..... Thanks for asking Tawnya!

The Holidays Stress Me Out

I'm totally stressing out over the whole holiday thing right now. Is it just me? I feel like I have SO much to do! I still haven't decorated my house, at all! I think I'm going to have to go do a little shopping Friday night after work, because I have no idea when else I'll be able to go! Saturday we're going to my mom's to bake cookies. Sunday I need to finish all Paul's stuff and get it packed up so I can get it in the mail on Monday. Next Saturday Gabriel has a birthday party of all things, and Sunday we're decorating our tree here, with help from MomMom, PopPop, Uncle Mike, and Aunt Jen. I still have to wrap all my gifts! And some how manage to keep up with all the regular housework, which I haven't been doing a very good job of lately! Oh, and go to work everyday! What I'd give for a day off with no kids! Of course, I'd probably spend it sleeping, and still get nothing done! LOL I'm beyond exhausted right now, and not feeling well is certainly not helping! Ok, I feel better now, I just needed to vent! Is anyone else out there stressing about the holidays this year?

gab says:
stressing over the holidaze....uhhh yup! but i stress over everything. it'll b ok (at least thats wat i m telling myself lol) somehow someway it gets done. now if the stupid weather would cooperate i could get my decorations up. can someone tell mother nature to cut out her winter crap on monday please!!!!

Missy says:
Thank goodness I don't have to decorate the outside of my house. I live way off the road so no one's going to see it. I put one string of lights around the front door to make Gabe happy and that's it!

Timson's Wife says:
I have such a laid back attitude about all of it. If it doesn't get done, then it just doesn't. Except for the tree. And if I don;t get the presents wrapped, they're going in gift bags. We are staying home just the 3 of us & so it will be low stress. I'm more stress about getting everything done before my man comes home. But my sis told me that I could be wearing a garbage bag & the house be a wreck & he won't care. He'll just be glad to be home. Honey - Should I pick you up at the airport in a garbage bag?

ann-marie says:
....comes off easily.......:)

gab says:
dont buy a Hefty :-)

The wife of Timson says:
okay ladies! I'll have the baby in toe when we go to the airport & unless I can get a security guard to watch him, My hubbt wi;; just have to wait. hey hon - unless you want me to leave him w/ someone & pick you up by myself.

Oh honey did I mention that Mishayla used her allowance to buy a trampoline? And I'd love some guys to put up lights on the outside of my house. But, no one can take your place BABE.
